Web design ui/ux

Web design is responsible for a website’s visual appearance, layout, structure and aesthetics, as well as the concepts of UI and UX. So, what are UI and UX?

  • UI (User Interface) refers to the interface design — the website’s visual style, including typography, colors, visual elements, and button combinations. It focuses on the overall aesthetic impression.
  • UX (User Experience) focuses on the user’s interaction with the website —  considering practical needs, action flow, and usability, ensuring the website is intuitive and easy to navigate.

In modern web design, the concepts of UI and UX are no longer separated — together, they ensure of a high-quality website development. For example, based on user behavior research (UX), experts have concluded that a website’s logo should be placed in the top left corner, as this is the first area visitors look at when a page loads.

Similarly, based on user experience studies but also considering color trends and visual design (UI), designers have found that websites aimed at teenagers should feature bright, vibrant colors, while medical or healthcare-related websites should use calming, soothing tones.

Stages of Web Design Creation

The process of creating a web design can be divided into five main stages:

  1. Creating the User Flow scheme
  2. Developing the layout
  3. Design creation
  4. Design adaptation
  5. Post-launch adjustments and refinements.

Since the creation of the User Flow scheme is responsible for mapping the sequence of user actions within the future website and is mainly used for large-scale projects, this stage is often skipped in the web design process.

In Armenia, the layout creation stage is also frequently omitted. This stage, typically represented with gray placeholders, is meant to show the placement of website elements such as text, images, videos, and visuals. However, non-professional clients typically refuse to approve this preliminary layout stage, preferring instead to see the final web design right away.

How do we work at Astudio?

  • At Astudio company, when creating a website design, we first present several versions of the homepage. These options are then discussed, refined, and combined to achieve the final version.
  • After the homepage design is approved, we move on to designing all the internal pages. Once those are confirmed, we proceed with the adaptation stage, preparing responsive versions for both mobile screens (320px) and tablet screens (1024px).
  • Even after the website has been fully designed and developed, there are cases where updates and adjustments become necessary. These changes are based on practical user experience, helping to make the website more intuitive and user-friendly.
